About
The Kinston congregation of the Church of Christ was established in 1953. The members were initially from Tennessee that had moved to Kinston with the building of the Dupont Dacron plant. The congregation held services in different rental building around town including the old Kinston Hotel on Queen Street. In 1959 the congregation moved into a new building on the corner of Hardee Rd. and Sunset Ave. At that time it was on the western edge of the city. Currently the building is in a prime location one block North of the Vernon Park Mall.
How Many Members?
Worldwide there are some 20,000 congregations of churches of Christ with a total of 21/2 to 3 million individual members. There are small congregations, consisting of just a few members—and large ones made up of several thousand members.
